The International College of Surgeons (ICS) has established a committee in Bangladesh, with two renowned neurosurgeons taking on leadership roles. Kanak Kanti Barua, a prominent neurosurgeon and former vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, has been elected as president, while Soumitra Sarkar, head of the neurosurgery department at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College, has been appointed as general secretary.
The official selection of these doctors took place at a five-star hotel in Dhaka, attended by Max Downham, CEO of the International College of Surgeons, who traveled from Chicago for the occasion. The event was also graced by former health minister and MP Afam Ruhul Haque, director general of health department ABM Khurshid Alam, and professor Md. Sanawar Hossain, alongside hundreds of doctors from across the country. The ICS has high hopes for the Bangladesh Committee and expects it to accelerate the activities of the Bangladesh Section of the International College of Surgeons.
